Doha: The META service, which offers tools through social media to discover missing children and return them to their homes, has started operating in Qatar. Facebook and Instagram have been used to set up a missing person alert system for Meta.
After successfully experimenting with the Amber Alert tool on Facebook, Meta launched it on Instagram in June of last year.
When children go missing, this cutting-edge method enables concerned authorities to get Missing Amber Alerts via Facebook and Instagram along with the missing person’s location, time, and photo.
This will make alerts about missing children visible to all users within a radius of 160 km. It is characterized by the fact that Facebook and Instagram users can share the Amber Alert with others and spread the message to more people in a short time, so that they can identify and locate the missing child in a short time.
In a ceremony held today, the Ministry of Home Affairs formally introduced the Amber Alert system. The ceremony was attended by the Director General of Criminal Investigation, Brigadier Jamal Mohammed Al-Kaabi, the Director of Public Relations, Abdullah Khalifa Al Muftah, the Director of META Trust and Safety, Emily Wachter, and the Head of Public Policy for META North Africa and the GCC, Shadan Khallaf.
